We moved from the Northwest to the Florida Panhandle around 10 or so years ago. It was quite the culture shock. We came from a very liberal cultured community, in a large mostly rural State, to the very conservative mentality of the deep south. The school systems, we were promised are the "best in the State." I failed to look at where this State compared to other States, which was at the bottom of the list, whereas the State we were from, was near the top of the list. We had a 16 year old, a 13 year old, and a 8 year old, when we moved. So 3 kids in 3 different schools. There also, is not near the kind of cultural activities that we have much interest in. It's a rather boring place really.
Before we could even bring them to school, we had to go out and buy them all new clothes to wear to school, because the clothes they wore to school in there former school, were unacceptable. They couldn't have torn knees or even a small hole in their jeans, and they couldn't wear shirts with anything considered "offensive" (their discretion") on the front. Also the girls skirts and shorts could be no shorter than 3 inches above the knee. My oldest daughter had no problem with it, because she never wore skirts, or shorts to school anyway, but my 13 year old daughter had long legs, and the "Daisy Duke" shorts were in style, and we could not find anything long enough because of the length of her legs. She was in that awkward stage, where their bodies don't keep up with their extremities. We moved from 40 below zero, to 70 above zero in a matter of a few days, and she is always hot anyway. The humidity, and thickness of the air, was difficult for her to adapt to, and of course she is in that female adolescent stage of raging hormones. This did not help the situation. Worst shopping day of my LIFE!!
I even got a call from the middle school principle one day, wanting me to come get her and take her home to change, and bring her back to school. I asked why? They said because her shorts were one inch too short. I said. "Well so, what's one inch, who's really going to notice that? He was like..."The boys....it it's distracting to the boys." I said "well discipline the boys then, teach them some manors". "Don't take it out on my daughter, just because her shorts are 1 inch too short. I am not going to waste my time, or the gas to come all the way down to the school, when there is less than half a day left, to bring her different shorts, that is ridiculous." I also said "and I better not hear that she has been shut away in the library, or something of the sort for the rest of the day either." She will not wear those shorts to school again, but it makes no sense to be making a big deal out of 1 measly inch." He just kind of stuttered, "uh uh, OK".
I couldn't believe it. They were more worried about 1 inch on a pair of shorts, than giving these kids any kind of education, or self discipline. I also don't think he expected a female to stand up to him like that. I was not raised in the south and neither were my kids at that point, and yes sir, and yes ma'am, were not in our vocabulary at the time. The kids learned very quickly when to use it. I still don't bother. LOL

NOT EVERYONE WHO LIVES IN TRAILER PARKS ARE "TRAILER TRASH"!!!
Yes, I live in a piece of shit trailer, in a trailer park. We just try to make the best of it. And there are legitimate reasons why.
I had to laugh...I went outside to smoke a cigg. and what do I see? The neighbor to the trailer park I live in. Is putting up a privacy fence. I guess he doesn't want his renters to see through the tiny little area between the garage and the house, and have to look at, God forbid...A trailer park. So I have two big dogs, (Pits to be exact) and we don't have much grass in the front yard, and they do not provide a watering system for the park, so we have to water our yard off of the County system. The County charges you sewer charges for every ounce of water you use, whether it goes down the sewer or not. Many of us can not afford to water our yards as a result. It's mostly people on fixed incomes, people like us, who ended up here, because we refuse to live in something we really can't afford, and yes some folks who are "trailer trash."

No, we don't have a shed for our "outside" stuff, so it is stuffed in between the front porch and the house for easy access, but I guess is an eyesore to some uppity people. We try to keep it neat and organized, but there is not much room, and we also have to consider my husband's back, which could go out, and possibly disable him at any time, also. So if we put it behind the front porch, or the back porch, he can not get to it to get it out, and has to drag it across the sandy yard, and kill his back. So sorry Mr. Neighbor, but we can't afford to risk it.
They already put up a big privacy fence in front of the Trailer Park when they built the apartments across the street, so the renter's would not have to look at us. That was totally fine with me. If they are willing to put up the fence, go for it, it gives me more privacy too.
Our County Commissioners are a bunch of uppity snobs, and are trying to close down all the trailer parks in the County. They allowed a developer to take out a large trailer park, that was in fair condition, forcrd everyone to move, and built a whole bunch of luxury apartments. Arrrrrrrggg!!!!I just wonder where they expect all the people who are on fixed incomes to live, and those people who are working the menial jobs, and are underpaid for the cost of living, and therefore can't afford $1200.00 per month rent. What about single mothers trying to raise the kids on their own, because the father is in jail for not paying child support. Now THAT makes a LOT of sense!!! Put the father in jail where he can't work and can't make his child support payments. Thats a real intelligent solution. A lot of thought must have been put in to THAT one. Geese Louise. It doesn't take a Rocket Scientist to figure this shit out. Just a little brain power and common sense.
How do they expect young kids to get started out on their own, if there is no affordable housing left in the County? I know it's a resort community, but let's get real here! Either the wages must come up, or the rents must come down. One or the other....(both would be really nice for a change, ha ha) They use absolutely no common sense when they come up with these ridiculous ideas, and are only thinking of themselves and the tourists. Just run the "riff raff" out of town. So what I want to know is, who do they expect to work at the gas stations, the local pharmacy, the grocery stores bagging their precious groceries, the hospital doing their admission paperwork, cleaning their hospital rooms, changing their beds, emptying their bedpans, etc...?
And they have this huge Mortgage and Credit Crisis going on right now, and wonder why? A...because people were swindled into living beyond their means by preditory lenders promising them the American Dream? Now the interest rates suddenly go up on the adjustable rate mortgages, and if they make a late payment on ANYTHING, the interest rates on their credit cards go up, and all of a sudden they are stuck in a house they can no longer afford, is worth less than what they paid for it, and are in debt up to their eyeballs, because they were living on their credit cards, and can't even afford the minimum payments anymore.
So once again history repeats itself, and we end up in another Recession. Didn't people learn the first time?

The ability of the Internet to bring out the judgemental, meannes, and self righteousnes in people.
It amazes me how bold people can be, and insensitive to others, because they are on the Internet, and are not looking who ever they are bashing in the face. It's particularly bothersome in children and teenagers. Do they not care that they are hurting someones feelings, or trampling all over their self esteem? Even others who do not know why a person on a particular site is being bashed, will follow along with others.
The mob mentality on the Internet?Wow, we humans have really lost our morals, I don't know how some people sleep at night knowing what they have done to someone on the Internet. Because they are mad at someone, they post nude, or questionable pics of said someone all over the internet, to get back at them? Or go to their MySpace page, and post the pics, and send out bash bullitons? Do they realize they could be ruining that persons entire life by doing such things? Do they know people have had to take their kids out of a particular school, and move to a different city or state, because of bashing and posting questionable pictures on the internet or MySpace about their kids? Do they not realize that they are causing people to give up their carrers, long standing jobs that were well paying, sell their dream home, lose their jobs, and many other repercussions because they were so shortsighted, that they could not see the damage that can be done by internet bashing?
People like that, are cowards! And obviously don't have a lick of common sense, which would consist of looking at the big picture, and looking at the repercussions, consequences, etc..., before deciding to do something stupid.
I belong to a couple of websites that have different groups for different types of people. It blows my mind how people can be so judgemental and call people names, tell them how stupid they are, tell them they don't deserve to be a parent. All based on a simple comment, or parenting method, or whatever it is, that the others disagree with. Instead of agreeing to disagree, they go to these peoples home pages, and bash them with negative posts, or bash them in the current thread that is being discussed. We all know these people would not be so mean to your face. So why the internet? Because they have annonymity, and think you can get away with it, and obviously don't realize that they are still hurting the person, even though they are not looking them in the face and saying it.
So annonymity brings out the boldness that does not always come out in the real world? Does it make a person feel better that when they are upset about something, they can totally take it out on someone else and make them feel bad, so they can make them selves feel better? Apparently so, as I see it more and more. I see information being copied and pasted (with out the "source" information included) in order to try and prove a point, and the information can be totally incorrect, but people will take it as the truth, because it goes along with their belief system. Ignorance is bliss. Common sense does not exist in the minds of these people.
Are parents and schools not teaching their kids the Golden Rule? "Do unto others, as you would have others do unto you" or in the words of Bambi "If you can't say something nice, then don't say nothin' at all". Or is it being over shadowed by the media. Like when you get snipey people like Nancy Grace, who always has this holier than thou tone of voice when she speaks. The media is all in to the Brittney Spears to do, and anything that is negative, and can be sensationalized. What ever happened to telling the truth, and the media being responsible for their reporting? It used to be, that the news media was not allowed to report unverified information. Now they just blabber away, because they want to get the story out before their competitors, and then if they are wrong. It's ooops, sorry, later on, or they say nothing at all. Pretty irresponsible if you ask me.
Email chain letters really burn my ass. I get 4 or 5 a day on some of the websites that I belong to. They drive me crazy, especially if it is about an illness, or a kidnapping, and I go to Snopes.com, and find out it is just another Urban Legand unleashed again. And people in the meantime are spreading it all over the internet as though it were true, and getting people all worked up over a lie. Now I am starting to get the old ones, recycled into new ones. What is wrong with these people? Is that all they have to do all day is sit at there computers and make this shit up? Where is the common sense in that people???? I love the ones that tell a nice story, and you really enjoy the story, only to be guilt tripped in the end, by the old "If you don't pass this on to at least 10 friends your house will burn down in 10 days" or "If you don't pass this on, you don't love Jesus", or even better, "You aren't a TRUE friend." Give me a Break! You can't just pass along a cute or nice story or poem, without attatching something stupid to it, to make sure people pass it on, because God forbid, they may not have enough common sense to realize that nothing is going to happen? It's absolutely mind boggling! If I like the story, I'll pass it along, but not before I delete the guilt trip part.

Since when did Common Sense become a dirty word?
1.) Why do we even have an IRS? I think it is nothing more than a middle man that eats up a good portion of our tax money, before it ever gets to the Government. It has got to cost a fortune to keep the IRS running. The overhead must be astounding. They have how many employees, offices, computers, with constant upgrading and changes, every year when the tax laws change? They employ how many accountants to make sure you aren't cheating the Government out of any of it's money? It has got to cost a LOT OF MONEY to keep this monstrosity going. Just think how much of our money would actually go where it is supposed to, if they were to simply eliminate the IRS/aka middle man. And life would be so much easier at the beginning of every year when you have to do, or take your taxes to be done.
Better yet, do you know that income tax is actually illegal and unconstitutional? We got out of England because of heavy taxation, and now we are repeating the same mistake. It doesn't take a Rocket Scientist to figure this out. It is illegal, but the Government manages to get away with it anyway, via loopholes invented for that very reason. Taxes are supposed to be paid voluntarily, that is why there is a voting process. Sooooo, if the Government insists on taxing our income, I suggest they take a straight 10% from everybody including themselves, and no one should be exempt, not Churches, or Charites, etc...that way, everybody pays their fair share. It is so simple a 5th grader could figure that one out. That way, the more money you make, the more you pay, the less you make, the less you pay. Just think how easy it would be able to resolve the current Recession, if everyone paid their fair share. There wouldn't be a recession. You can thank the Bush debacle for that one. Right now, the less you make, the more you pay. Hmmmmm, what in the hell is wrong with this picture?
The only other feasable option would be a National Sales Tax. Then even the illegals are paying taxes. So there is the way around that little problem. All it takes is a little brain power and common sense. We need to learn to think for ourselves, and not let the government lead us around by the hand and tell us what to do. That is just plain stupid. But we allow it to happen, because they have so artfully figured out how to use the media to make us in to little unthinking robots.
2.) Am I the only one who has figured out that Bill Clinton was set up by the Bush Right Wing Republican movement from the moment he was elected? It is so obvious to me that that poor man was dogged continuously during his eight years in office, but still managed to keep us out of the horrible debt George W. has sunk us in to. Since it was getting to the end of Clinton's Presidency, and Ken Starr still could not come up with anything after wasting millions of tax payer money, he and Linda Tripp set up a sex scandal, and used Monica Lewinsky as the pawn, because they knew she was naive, and infatuated with the man. Why else would Linda Tripp have told Monica to not wash the dress? It was a complete set up. So the man, like ANY OTHER MAN IN THE SAME POSITION lies about a sex scandal that never should have been made public in the 1st place, and gets impeached for it? Come on people are we that f'ing stupid. George W. stole the election, and then proceeded to lie his ass off about everything, mainly weapons of mass destruction, so he can go start a freaking war in Iraq, to vindicate daddy, who f'd up there in the 1st place. He should have stayed the hell out of Iraq, and gone after Bin Laden, the dumb ass.
The other thing that drives me crazy about George W. is the fact that he is an idiot, and a snake. The man can not even properly pronounce the word nuclear, and his wife is a freaking teacher. He still says nucular, when it is pretty obvious there is only one u in the word nuclear.
